In the Republic of Serbia, once part of Kingdom of Yugoslavia, the Royal dynasty roots go back over two hundred years. Almost a quarter of that time, during the communist regime, the family was in exile.

Second in the line to the Throne, Prince Philip, son of Crown Prince Alexander of Serbia and Princess Maria da Glória of Orleans Bragança, married Danica Marinković, a daughter of Serbian impressionist painter Mr. Milan Marinković Cile and Mrs. Beba Marinković. The Godmother was Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and the Godfather was Prince Peter of Serbia.

The ceremony took place at the Cathedral Church of Saint Michael the Archangel in Belgrade, at the same place where Philip’s great-great-grandfather, King Peter I of Yugoslavia, was crowned and the place where his great-grandfather, King Alexander I of Yugoslavia, married Queen Maria, nearly a century ago. Unlike the previous glamour and extensive ceremony, this princely wedding was modest, but still in the spirit of tradition officiated by Serbian Patriarch Irinej.

Following the wedding in a church, guests went to the White Palace, the royal residence, for a reception followed by dinner. Around 700 guests were hosted, among them were other European royals, ambassadors, Serbian officials, public figures as well as friends and family.
